The NEWater project brings together a strong and multidisciplinary consortium of five research and academic institutions, complemented by industrial and stakeholder partners across Europe and beyond. The consortium is coordinated by Sapienza University of Rome (Italy), responsible for overall project management, modelling, social and economic assessment, and communication. The University of Basilicata (UNIBAS, Italy) leads the development of low-cost decentralized wastewater treatments for rural applications. University of Porto (UPORTO, Portugal) coordinates the validation of wastewater reuse for green hydrogen production, integrating advanced membrane and ozonation systems. Institut Català de Recerca de l’Aigua (ICRA, Spain) leads the demonstration of urban greywater reclamation using nature-based and hybrid technologies for edible crop production. Ben-Gurion University of the Negev (BGU, Israel) develops innovative reverse osmosis membranes and activated hydrochar materials for nutrient recovery and effluent desalination. Supporting partners and stakeholders — including EFACEC, Águas do Porto, AdP Valor, Veolia, Waxy, and the Catalan Water Partnership — contribute industrial expertise and ensure real-world validation and market relevance. Together, these partners form a robust and complementary team dedicated to advancing sustainable, energy-efficient, and circular water management solutions across diverse European and non-EU regions.
